Unsung Hero

Unsung Hero Award 2022/23

The Bradford City Supporters Board are proud to continue being associated with the awarding of the Unsung Hero of the Year at the annual Bradford City End of Season Dinner. Over the years there have been some really deserving winners of this award and we are sure this years award will be no different.

As part of our move as a Supporters Board to increase involvement from our fellow fans, this year we asked for nominations from the whole fan base as to who the winner of this years Bradford City Unsung Hero should be.

We will be looking at judging the nominations against the below criteria:

-         Goes the extra mile to help

-         Committed to carrying out their role to a very high standard

-         Consistent dedication and hard work, even when no one is watching

We received dozens of nominations and heard so many excellent examples of the Clubs staff, volunteers and wider fan base going the extra mile and acting as an Unsung Hero. Our winner this year was decided following a review of all nominations and a clear winner emerged despite the strong competition

The winner of the Unsung Hero Award for 2022/23 is:

Robert Cranmer

Bradford City Mental Health Lead

Robert received over a third of the total nominations and some of the reasons the people gave were very moving.

Focus and support for Mental Health has been becoming more prominent in recent years as our society moves towards reducing the historical stigmas and misperceptions in needing support. Whilst not going through word for word the various nominations our winner has received in this speech the fact that one of the nominations stated that they would not be here without the support he has received from our winner.

We know from speaking to the winner recently that amount of hours and effort he puts into his work with the club alongside a busy full time job. Hopefully this win will help give him the recognition he deserves and also help publicise the work he does to see if anyone else can volunteer to help this vital service.

Honourable Mentions

“For his tireless commitment to supporting the Club not only with the Shipley Bantams but also the practical volunteering of his own time to assist with so many unseen activities around the Ground.”

Steve Gorringe

“Because of his work leading the Club Charity, we now have more young fans aspiring to play for and support the team because of the summer football camps and outreach work into schools. Also the club are making stronger inroads into encouraging ethnic minorities to follow the club and participate in sports. Finally the conversation of the old shop into the City Hub has given fans a place to gather before games to catch up and also stay warm.”

Ian Ormondroyd

“He has been instrumental in the formation of the Bradford City Business Club. During Covid he ran regular Zoom networking events to keep the club going during a time we couldn’t meet up. The Club has moved on and gone from strength to strength with increased membership & events with guest speakers and hundreds of local companies coming together under the BCAFC banner. Many of these have gone on to be club sponsors. I know we are one of them!.”

Mick Russell

“The groundskeeping staff at the Club continue to do a fantastic job. The pitch has been in magnificent condition throughout the season which can only help the team be able to the style of football they have”
